Rishabh Pant and Mohammed Siraj
NEW DELHI: During the ongoing Test between India and England, India’s vice-captain Rishabh Pant once again showcased his trademark wit — this time while trying to inject urgency into the bowling attack just before the lunch break. With England chasing 371 for victory, they had reached 106 without loss, thanks to a solid opening stand from Ben Duckett (64) and Zak Crawley (42), still 254 runs adrift of the target. While Jasprit Bumrah remained sharp and disciplined, the rest of the Indian pace unit — Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Shardul Thakur — struggled to maintain consistent lines and lengths. The English batters capitalized, scoring freely off anything remotely loose.Amid the pressure, Pant kept spirits high behind the stumps. He was heard motivating Siraj with a humorous jab: "Yes boys, 1 minute mein 3 ball daal sakta hai kya? 2 to daal bhi di abhi.
Chalo chalo chalo," to which Siraj responded with a grin.Pant didn’t stop there. Continuing to egg on the bowlers, he said: "Boom bhai ka 1 aur over. Mahaul banayenge. Ek aa jaayega. Khulega to aayega."Eventually, it was Bumrah who broke through, dismissing Duckett with a well-disguised off-cutter — the standout moment from an otherwise frustrating morning for India.Despite Bumrah’s brilliance, the support bowlers couldn’t replicate his impact, allowing the English openers to dominate the session.
Duckett and Crawley, who have compiled over 2000 runs together in Tests, looked in control, putting away poor deliveries with a combination of cuts, pulls, and elegant drives. One particular cover drive from Duckett off Prasidh Krishna stood out as the shot of the morning.England’s strategy was clear — negotiate Bumrah cautiously and take on the others. With India's backup pacers struggling for rhythm and length, bowling coach Morne Morkel was seen walking down to the boundary rope for a quick discussion with the bowlers.
