Liverpool manager Arne Slot commented on Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven’s aggressive tackle on Liverpool striker Alexander Isak during the Reds’ 2-1 victory over the Londoners in the Premier League over the weekend. The incident left the Swedish star with a fractured leg.

Isak and Hugo Ekitike scored to secure the win for Slot’s team against Thomas Frank’s side. However, Isak had to be substituted after Van de Ven’s tackle caused him significant pain. As a result of the challenge, Isak is expected to be sidelined for two months with a fractured leg.

“The tackle of Van De Ven, if you make that tackle ten times, I think ten times there’s a serious chance that a player gets a serious injury," the Dutchman said.

“Isak’s so unlucky because he was getting closer to the player he was last season," Slot added reflecting on the record buy’s early struggles with the Merseyside club.

Van de Ven escaped without a booking for the tackle, which contrasted with his teammate Xavi Simons, who was sent off in the 33rd minute for his challenge on Virgil van Dijk.

Slot, however, had no issues with Simons’ tackle on Van Dijk, which he termed as ‘absolutely unintentional’ and “I don’t think you will ever get an injury out of a tackle like that."

Slot also confirmed that star midfielder Florian Wirtz, who was also forced off during the game against Spurs with a cramp, will be fit for Liverpool’s clash against Wolves.
