A 10-year-old boy who was electrocuted and suffered over 70% burns on Sunday, June 15, after coming in contact with a high-tension power line while playing in front of his third floor residence in Bengaluru, succumbed on Friday.
The incident happened in Gayatri Nagar, K.R. Puram.
The deceased, Ananth, 10, hailed from Nepal. He was living with his mother, who works as a domestic help in the city. The mother-son duo lived in a rented accommodation on the third floor of a three-storeyed building, built very close to a high-tension wire, in violation of rules.
On the evening of June 15, Ananth was playing in the porch of his house on the third floor. He touched the high-voltage wire — just a few metres away — with a metal rod, and was electrocuted. He was immediately shifted to a hospital, where he was being treated.
Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (KPTCL) officials, who visited the spot and conducted an inquiry, said that the boy had come in contact with a 220 kV transmission line.
