100 women ransack UP liquor outlet after addict's wife, son die by suicide

Mob smashed bottles, causing damages worth nearly Rs 2 lakh.

AGRA: More than 100 women ransacked a govt-run country liquor outlet in Kasganj district after a 35-year-old woman and her nine-year-old son died by suicide, with villagers blaming her husband's alcohol addiction and domestic abuse for the deaths.

Police said an FIR has been registered, and a probe is on.Police said Pinki Kumari and her son Reyansh, residents of Ladhauli village under Patiyali tehsil, allegedly consumed poison on Friday night. They were taken to the CHC, where doctors declared the boy dead. Pinki was referred to the district hospital but died on the way.Villagers alleged that the liquor shop had become a "source of misery" for several families and demanded its immediate removal.

On Sunday, women stormed the outlet, vandalised premises, smashed bottles and crates, and threw liquor on the road, causing damage worth nearly Rs 2 lakh. Sikandarpur SHO Vaish Chanchal Sirohi told TOI, "An FIR has been filed under relevant BNS sections. A probe is also on into the deaths of the mother and son.

"Residents told TOI that Pinki had been subjected to frequent physical abuse by her husband Sunil, an alcoholic. District excise officer Sanjay Kumar Singh said the deaths may have stemmed from an "family dispute due to some property dispute".
