In an action against corruption, the Deputy General of Uttar Pradesh police (DGP), Rajeev Krishna, suspended 11 police personnel for allegedly taking bribes from vehicle drivers in multiple districts. The decision came to light after a video surfaced on social media, showing these police personnel collecting extortion on the road.

The suspension includes one inspector, four sub-inspectors, one woman sub-inspector, and five constables from Chitrakoot, Banda, and Kaushambi districts.

In Chitrakoot, the suspended officials include three station house officers (SHOs) of Bharatkoop, Pahari, and Rajapur police stations, along with one inspector, two sub-inspectors (including a female official), and three constables.

In the Banda district, the station house officer of Badausa and one constable have been suspended. Similarly, in Kaushambi, the station house officer and one constable of Mahewaghat have been suspended.

Who is Rajeev Krishna

A 1991-batch IPS officer of Uttar Pradesh cadre, Rajeev Krishna, was appointed as the acting Director General of Police in March this year. He succeeded the former DGP Prashant Kumar.

As a senior IPS officer, Krishna’s name rose to prominence when the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment Board successfully conducted the constable recruitment exam under his chairmanship. This examination was cancelled due to an alleged paper leak last year. However, with Krishna’s efforts, it was later conducted successfully, and as a result, he became one of the front-runners for the state police's DGP post.
