11 women police trainees faint during 16-km run in Rohtas

Sasaram: Barely four days after six male trainee constables collapsed during a 16-km endurance run at the Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP)-2 training centre in Dehri, with one later dying, 11 women police trainees fainted during a similar exercise at the same campus on Sunday, raising fresh concerns over safety protocols during extreme heat. The trainees, part of a batch of more than 1,300 women constables undergoing basic training, fell ill while participating in a mandatory 16-km run from the BSAP-2 parade ground to Indrapuri Chowk. All 11 trainees were rushed to Dehri Sub-Divisional Hospital. Seven recovered after treatment and were discharged, while three were referred to Sadar Hospital, Sasaram. One trainee, Vinita Kumari, was shifted to a private hospital in Jamuhar after her condition deteriorated.

Hospital authorities later said her condition had stabilised.DSP Babli Kumari, in charge of the Women’s Battalion, said 1,358 women trainees from Patna, Nalanda and Gopalganj district police forces were undergoing training at the centre. She said the long-distance run was part of the mandatory physical efficiency assessment required for successful completion of the training programme.Hospital manager Rana Rajesh said all 11 trainees were admitted with symptoms linked to heat stress and physical exhaustion.

“Four of them were in a relatively serious condition and complained of breathing difficulties, abdominal pain and severe dizziness, while others reported vomiting and weakness,” he said.Officials said drinking water, ambulances and medical teams had been deployed along the route. However, the incident has intensified scrutiny of strenuous training drills during peak summer conditions, particularly after the recent death of a trainee constable during a similar exercise.
