12 arrested for drunken driving in Vijayawada

The police arrested 12 individuals and booked cases against 85 for driving under the influence of alcohol, according to a press release on Saturday (May 16, 2026). The police produced the accused before the courts, which sentenced two individuals to three days of imprisonment and ten to two days in jail. The court imposed a fine of ₹7.40 lakh on the remaining accused, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP-Traffic) Shareen Begum. The special drive will continue to prevent road accidents, the DCP stated.
