13 houses damaged in the Nilgiris due to rain

A total of 13 houses have been damaged by rain in the Nilgiris since October 18, 2025 (Saturday), the district administration said, with ₹1.04 lakh in welfare assistance being offered to the families.

The administration said that 42 zonal teams continued to maintain vigilance across 283 areas that were prone to landslips and 42 Tamil Nadu Disaster Response Force (TNDRF) personnel continued to be stationed in Kotagiri and Coonoor taluks to meet any emergencies arising out of heavy rainfall in the district.

The rain in the district has also resulted in damage to other public infrastructure, including the collapse of nine retaining walls and 35 electricity poles. Since Friday, more than 20 landslips have been cleared by staff from the highways department while 18 uprooted trees have also been cleared.

Flooding had also resulted in damage to more than 25 hectares of farmland.

The Nilgiris district collector, Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru has also reviewed preparations undertaken to ensure that people remain safe during heavy spells of rain across the district.
