14-year-old dies while practising soccer at academy in Coimbatore

COIMBATORE: A 14-year-old boy practising soccer at an academy located at Marutham Nagar near Saravanampatti in Coimbatore city collapsed and died on the spot around 7.45 pm on Thursday.The deceased was identified as S Krithik, 14, from Sreevatsa Garden at Thudiyalur in Coimbatore city. Police said the minor boy completed class IX at Manchester International School at Vellakinar near Thudiyalur. He was about to join class X the following week.The boy practised soccer at First Kick School of Soccer Academy at Marutham Nagar at Saravanampatti for the last few years. He was taken to the academy by his father, Senthil, 44, on Thursday evening, and the minor boy used to practise between 6 pm and 8 pm.While practising, he collapsed around 7.45 pm and fell on the turf. Immediately, he was rushed to a private hospital by his father in a car, and the doctors declared the minor boy dead. Saravanampatti police were informed, and the police rushed to the hospital and sent the dead body of the minor boy to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for postmortem.Police said the cause of death will be known after the postmortem result. Saravanampatti police registered a case, and further investigation is on.
