The Thanjavur District Agriculture Department officials seized approximately 15 tonnes of spurious urea from a godown in Thanjavur on June 26.
According to official sources, on June 20 the Salem District Agriculture Department officials detected the sale of spurious urea under the guise of “organic inputs” in Thalaivasal area in Salem district. Interrogation of the persons involved in the sale of spurious urea revealed that the consignment was sourced from a godown in Thanjavur.
Immediately, the Thanjavur District Agriculture Department officials went to the godown located on Vadakku Raja Veedhi on June 20 night where they found the godown remained locked. Thus, they sealed the godown in the presence of village administrative officer Manivannan.
As the officials were unable to locate the godown owner, a team went to the godown on June 26 and broke the seal in the presence of the VAO and police.
Inside the godown, they found spurious urea weighing around 15 tonnes, sources added.
