Modi greets West Bengal on Poila Baisakh, attacks 15 years of TMC misrule, urges voters to back BJP and Lotus symbol for safety, jobs and a developed West Bengal

With the first phase of elections in West Bengal just days away, Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to the people of the state with a Poila Baisakh message. 

In his letter, he greeted citizens on the Bengali New Year while also criticising 15 years of alleged misgovernance under the Trinamool Congress. He urged voters to support the Bharatiya Janata Party for what he described as a safer and more developed state, and appealed to them to vote for the “Lotus Symbol".

PM Modi’s letter

In his message, the Prime Minister extended warm wishes for Poila Baisakh and said he prayed to Maa Kali for the well-being of the people. He expressed hope that citizens would move forward with renewed energy and enthusiasm towards a brighter future.

Criticism of TMC governance

The Prime Minister said that for the past 15 years, the state has faced misgovernance, disorder and corruption. According to him, this has affected the basic rights, dignity and culture of the people. He added that seeing the suffering of the people leaves him deeply distressed.

He also spoke about what he described as an atmosphere of fear in the state. He said this has affected the safety of women, limited employment opportunities for the youth, and denied the poor their rights.

Vision for a ‘developed West Bengal’

The Prime Minister highlighted West Bengal’s historical role in guiding the country and society. He called on people to use the New Year as a moment to take a fresh pledge for change.

He outlined a vision of a “Developed West Bengal", where every poor person has a roof over their head and food on their plate. He said women should be able to step out safely and without fear, and young people should not be forced to leave the state in search of work.

Call for political change

Assuring voters, he said that if a BJP government is formed, the state will move forward in line with the rest of the country’s development. He added that West Bengal could once again play a leading role in building a “Developed India".

Appeal to voters

Calling the upcoming election a crucial moment, the Prime Minister said it is not just a routine poll but an opportunity to shape the future of the state. He urged people to protect agriculture, culture, heritage and rights through their vote.

Describing the contest as a fight between truth and darkness, he appealed to voters to make the right decision for themselves and future generations. He asked people to participate actively in the democratic process and expressed confidence that they would place their trust in the BJP and give it a historic victory.
