An old video of Brazilian club Sport Recife conceding one of the most bizarre own goals in football history — just 18 seconds into their second-division clash against Novorizontino has resurfaced again.From kick-off, Sport’s defenders exchanged passes under pressure, but disaster struck when centre-back Alisson Cassiano misdirected a back pass. Goalkeeper Caique França, positioned near the edge of his box, was caught out of position. To their horror, the ball trickled past him and into the empty net without Novorizontino even touching it.

The moment, now viral on social media, sparked debate among fans over whether Cassiano or França was more at fault.
The look of despair exchanged between the two players said it all.Fans were left stunned by the goal on X, but were split on whether to blame Cassiano or Franca.Novorizontino capitalised on the gift, doubling their lead from the penalty spot before half-time. Sport pulled one back in the second half but couldn’t find an equaliser. Tempers flared late, with both teams reduced to 10 men in a fiery finish.
The match ended 2-1 to Novorizontino, but the night will be remembered for one of the strangest openers ever scored.
