18-year-old found guilty of sexually abusing minor girl

The Thiruvananthapuram Additional District and Sessions Court (POCSO), which deals with cases relating to atrocities and sexual violence against women and children, on Friday found a 18-year-old man guilty of raping a 13-year-old girl a year ago.

Judge Shibu M.P. found Afsal of Kollam guilty of the crime that was committed under the Peroorkada police station limits. The quantum of the sentence will be pronounced on Saturday. According to the prosecution led by special public prosecutor Ajith Prasad J.K., the accused met the survivor through Instagram. After obtaining her address, he visited her on the day of the incident and sexually assaulted her. Her parents were not at home, but her 8-year-old sister was. The neighbours were unaware of the incident, despite the survivor’s sister’s cries for help. He has been under judicial custody since his arrest by the Peroorkada police.
