An 18-year-old boy was injured when he was hit by a truck in Maruthi Nagar on Sunday afternoon, leading to a snap protest by residents blaming poor infrastructure and rash and negligent driving by heavy vehicles.

This came close on the heels of the tragic death of Tanvi Krishna who was on her way to school with her mother and sister and was crushed to death by a BMTC bus near Kogilu cross, Yelahanka on Thursday morning, a day before her 11th birthday. Tanvi Krishna would have turned 11-years-old on August 22.

Sunday’s incident occurred around 12.30 p.m. when the victim, Satyanarayana, riding a bicycle, was run over by the truck in Maruthi Nagar . The boy, stuck under the front wheel, was pulled out by passers by and rushed to hospital in an ambulance where he is being treated in the intensive care unit.

The Yelahanka traffic police detained the driver and seized the truck for further investigation.

Residents protested alleging poor infrastructure and bad road condition and increasing traffic volume. “Heavy vehicles pose a threat to people, especially senior citizens and school going children. There are no dividers on many roads,“ Muniraju, a local resident said.

We demand the authorities to ensure road safety and traffic discipline to save lives of people , another resident added.
