An 18-year-old woman was allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted by two men in Odisha’s Jagatsinghpur district on Monday night, police said.

The incident occurred around 8:30 PM when the woman was returning home with a friend after attending a birthday celebration in a nearby village.

According to the police complaint filed by the survivor’s father, the two were intercepted by the accused, who forcibly took the young woman to a nearby farmland.

Her friend reportedly managed to escape and raise an alarm, while the survivor was allegedly assaulted and gang-raped.

The woman returned home in a critical condition and was immediately taken to the district headquarters hospital for treatment.

Jagatsinghpur Sadar police station officer-in-charge Pravas Sahoo visited the site and recovered a mobile phone believed to be linked to the incident.

Police are questioning the survivor’s friend and her mother as part of the ongoing investigation.

BJP MLA from Jagatsinghpur, Amarendra Das, confirmed that a search operation is underway. “I have spoken to the SP. Strict action will be taken against those responsible," he said.

The incident has sparked political outrage, with opposition leaders criticising the state government over rising crimes against women.

BJD leader Priyabrat Mohapatra stated, “We will gherao the SP office until all the accused are arrested."

The case adds to a growing list of recent incidents in the state that have prompted protests and criticism of law and order by the opposition.
