The recovered gold jewellery and cash
Sambalpur: A 19-year-old man and a minor have been arrested and detained respectively on Monday for stealing 390 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 30 lakh and Rs 40,000 cash from the house of their kin in Jamla village under Padampur police limits in Bargarh district.
The complainant’s family had been to Nrusinghanath temple when the burglary took place on Sunday evening.Police said the accused, Jaga Meher (19), and the minor took advantage of the family’s absence. When the family returned, they found the valuables missing and house owner Chanchal Meher lodged a complaint with police late on Sunday evening. Acting on a tip-off, a team nabbed the duo from Barpali railway station while they were attempting to flee to Tamil Nadu, police sources said.SP (Bargarh) Prahalad Sahai Meena said, “The accused and the child in conflict with law were aware of the family’s movement and used that information to commit the theft. We have recovered all stolen gold jewellery and Rs 40,000 cash from them. The bike used in the burglary has also been seized.”
