More than 25 stray dogs were killed over two days, August 2 and 3, in Rajasthan’s Jhunjhunu district by two men who allegedly filmed themselves shooting the animals. Police are now tracking the suspects following public outrage after the video went viral online.

The disturbing incident took place in Kumawas village and has triggered widespread outrage across the state and on social media platforms.

The main accused, identified as Sheochand Bavaria, a resident of Dumra village, was seen in the viral video openly roaming the village with a rifle, targeting stray dogs.

The footage shows him and another man on a motorcycle chasing and shooting the dogs at close range. A third person, riding a separate bike, appears to be filming the incident.

Bloodied dog carcasses can be seen scattered across the village streets and open fields in the video. The footage, which quickly circulated on social media, has drawn sharp criticism from animal welfare groups, local residents, and the wider public. Many have demanded immediate and strict action against those involved.

An animal rights activist who posted the video on X wrote, “Incident in Kumawas village, Jhunjhunu district, Rajasthan: Dogs were openly shot dead. The police administration remains silent, and the law has been blatantly violated. Please, the police must take immediate action."

The activist also tagged the Rajasthan Chief Minister’s Office, Rajasthan Police, and Jhunjhunu Police in the post.

Responding to her post, Jhunjhunu Police replied that a search operation is underway and that legal action is being taken. “In connection with the aforementioned case, the police station officer is searching for the suspect and taking further legal action," the comment read.

Meanwhile, Superintendent of Police Brijesh Jyoti Upadhyay confirmed that an investigation was launched on August 4 after the video went viral. A case has been registered under the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act, India Today reported.

While the main accused is currently absconding, police say they are making efforts to track him down and are also looking into the involvement of others who appear in the video.
