UDUPI: The Manipal police busted a drug operation, arresting two Business Management students and seizing ganja. The accused are Aryan C. Thadani and Aryan Chagappa. Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused are drug consumers and allegedly supplied drugs to students.According to the police, on Thursday night, Manipal Police Inspector Mahesh Prasad received information that ganja was being sold at a flat in Shivalli village, Udupi taluk. Acting on this tip-off, police raided the spot and arrested Aryan C. Thadani. They seized ganja worth approximately Rs 60,000, along with a hookah, a digital scale, and an iPhone worth approximately Rs 75,000. A case was registered at Manipal Police Station under Sections 8(c) and 20(b)(II)(b) of the NDPS Act.Another accused, Aryan Chagappa, was arrested in Mangaluru. From his scooter, police seized ganja valued at Rs 20,000. The accused were taken into custody, produced before court, and remanded to judicial custody.The operation was carried out under the supervision of Udupi Sub-Division DySP Prabhu D.T., led by Manipal Police Inspector Mahesh Prasad, with the support of Sub-Inspector Akshaykumari S.N. and staff of Manipal Police Station.
Ganja Consumption Cases: In the past fifteen days, Udupi district police have intensified their crackdown on ganja consumption, registering 23 cases and taking action against 28 accused. Udupi SP Hariram Shankar said that of these, 14 cases were booked at Manipal Police Station involving 16 accused, three cases at Udupi Town Police Station with four accused, two cases at Kundapur Police Station with two accused, and one case each at Hebri, Kaup, Karkala Rural, and Padubidri Police Stations, involving six accused.Officials have affirmed that strict and sustained measures will continue against both ganja use and its distribution in the district.
