The Supreme Court will hear on July 14 the appeal challenging the acquittal of 12 accused in 2006 Mumbai train blasts. Seeking an urgent hearing in the matter, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta appearing for Maharashtra told a bench presided by Chief Justice of India B R Gavai, “It’s a serious matter from the government’s point of view. There is an element of urgency.”

He said the state had already prepared the appeal and sought a hearing Wednesday. The CJI pointed out that 8 of the accused had already been released.
