A speeding truck killed Bharat and his nephew, critically injuring Jayanti in Muzaffarnagar.

A 23-year-old man and his one-year-old nephew lost their lives, and the child’s mother was critically injured after a speeding truck rammed into their motorcycle from behind in Muzaffarnagar district on Friday, according to police.

The deceased man has been identified as Bharat. His sister-in-law, Jayanti, was taken to a hospital in a serious condition.

According to Circle Officer Rajkumar Saini, Circle Officer Rajkumar Saini the accident took place near the Barkali cut on Saharanpur Road, when the family was travelling from Yamunanagar to Bareilly, PTI reported.

A search is underway to apprehend the truck driver, who fled the scene after the crash, police said.

Meanwhile, monsoon fury has led to a mishap in Barabanki district as at least five passengers were killed when a huge fig tree suddenly fell on a roadways bus at Rajabazar near Harakh on the Barabanki-Haidergarh road in Uttar Pradesh on Friday in the wake of heavy rainfall.

Two passengers are seriously injured.

There were about 60 passengers in the bus, news agency ANI quoted the District Magistrate as saying.

CMO Barabanki Awadhesh Kumar said, “Today at 10 and 10.30 am, a roadways bus in which 60 passengers were travelling, hit a tree due to heavy rains. 5 people were killed in the accident. Two people have been injured, including a woman. The woman has received an injury to her head, but she is out of danger. Among the five killed, only one has been identified till now."
