His remarks came after a 17-year-old boy was allegedly murdered by a group of five people near the Meenakshi Amman Temple in Madurai. According to local reports, the victim, identified as Kubendran, was attacked while sleeping in the temple parking area and his body was later thrown from the first floor.

Police suspect that the murder stemmed from an earlier clash during the Chithirai festival and said efforts are underway to trace the five accused.

Stalin also referred to the abduction and murder of a 10-year-old girl near Kannampalayam in Sulur, Coimbatore, and alleged that another sexual assault had since taken place in Villupuram district.

“Even before the shock of the brutality against the little girl in Coimbatore’s Sulur could subside, another sexual assault has occurred against a girl in Villupuram district," he said.

He further alleged that the mother of the Sulur victim was cremated in haste without proper information being given to relatives. Stalin also pointed to other recent incidents, including a petrol bomb attack on a young woman’s house in Coimbatore and vandalism allegedly carried out by drug addicts in Perambur, the chief minister’s constituency.

“When the public is writhing in fear due to the rising crime incidents, holding a meeting with police officials this morning for eye-wash and issuing routine statements cannot be accepted," he said, demanding that the government spell out concrete steps to prevent crimes against women and children.

The BJP also attacked the Vijay government with senior BJP leader K Annamalai alleging that “drug peddlers, sexual assaulters and murderers have a free pass in Tamil Nadu," while state BJP president Nainar Nagendran demanding severe punishment for those involved in the crimes.

“The Tamil Nadu government will firmly act to ensure that those who engage in such heinous acts against women and children receive severe punishment under the law. All immediate and necessary actions for this will be taken," he said.
