25 years after 'Dil Chahta Hai', Saif Ali Khan and Farhan Akhtar to reunite for an intense moral thriller
Twenty-five years after redefining modern Hindi cinema with the cult classic 'Dil Chahta Hai', actor Saif Ali Khan and filmmaker Farhan Akhtar are officially joining forces once again. Khan is reportedly set to headline a brand-new, untitled moral thriller produced under Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s premier banner, Excel Entertainment.
According to reports, the untitled project is currently in the development phase. While the makers have not officially announced the film, work on the screenplay is progressing steadily. The production house is reportedly aiming to begin filming before the end of the year.
Saif Ali Khan to headline the thriller based on morals
Reports from Variety says that unlike a conventional suspense drama, the upcoming film is expected to explore complex moral and ethical dilemmas.
Reports suggest the story will examine social issues through an intense narrative that combines psychological tension with emotional drama. The screenplay is still being written, and the creative team has kept the storyline under wraps. However, the project is said to place its central character in situations that challenge personal beliefs, ethics and difficult life choices.
Casting process for Saif Ali Khan starrer still underway
Saif Ali Khan is expected to play the lead role in the film. Reports also state that the makers are searching for a leading actress to join the cast.
The director has not yet been finalised. Although several key details remain undisclosed, the production house is believed to be moving ahead with pre-production alongside script development. The project reunites Saif Ali Khan with the banner behind 'Dil Chahta Hai,' and expectations are high.
Released in 2001, the coming-of-age drama marked Farhan Akhtar's directorial debut and became one of the defining films of modern Hindi cinema.
Saif Ali Khan on the work front
Saif Ali Khan was most recently seen earning positive reviews as a sharp-witted police officer in the Netflix India film 'Kartavya.' His upcoming lineup also includes 'Haiwaan' which is a commercial venture directed by veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan, co-starring Akshay Kumar.
