Around 250 delegates, including some foreigners, participated in 4th International Conference on Friction-Based Processes (ICFP 2025) in Tirupati on Saturday. The conference will provide a platform for young researchers through poster presentations, with awards for the best entries.

The three-day event is being organised by the International Association for Processing of Materials and Fabrication of Products (IA-PMFP), in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Tirupati, IIT Patna, IIT Dharwad, and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru.

Inaugurating the event, chairman and managing director of MIDHANI, Hyderabad, S.V.S. Narayana Murthy, emphasised that discussions on emerging challenges in friction-based processes would inspire young researchers to engage with the field for the next two decades.

He underlined the growing need for metallurgists and mechanical engineers in India for the development of advanced friction based processing techniques. He also released a souvenir on ICFP.

IISc Bengaluru professor Satish V. Kailas, IIT Madras Dean Arun Tangirala, IA-PMFP president T.S. Srivatsan spoke about the latest advancements in friction-based manufacturing processes and smart and additive manufacturing.

IIT Tirupati conference convenor Ajay Kumar said: “This is a proud moment for Tirupati. Hosting ICFP will not only showcase cutting-edge research but also highlight the city’s role in advancing scientific innovation.”

This is the second time India is hosting the ICFP, which has become a prestigious global platform for discussing friction-based processes and their industrial applications.
