A 26-year-old kabaddi player was shot dead in broad daylight on Hari Singh Hospital Road in Punjab's Jagraon on Friday, barely a few hundred metres from the office of the district’s top police official. The killing, suspected to be the result of an old rivalry, has sparked shock and concern in the area.

The victim, Tejpal Singh was reportedly on his way to a factory near Hari Singh Road with two friends when a rival group intercepted them. Following a heated argument, one of the men allegedly pulled out a revolver and shot Tejpal in the chest.

His friends rushed him to the Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

Soon after the incident, teams from the City Police Station and the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) reached the spot and began an investigation. Police have launched raids to track down the shooter and his accomplices.

Officials said preliminary findings suggest that the attack stemmed from a personal enmity. An investigation is underway.
