Twenty-seven Maoists, including 10 women, surrendered to security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district on Tuesday. The group also included two hardcore cadres from the feared People's Liberation Guerrilla Army (PLGA) Battalion-01, one of the most dangerous units of the insurgency network.

The surrendered Maoists carried bounties totalling Rs 50 lakh. One had a reward of 10 lakh, three had 8 lakh each, one had 3 lakh, two had 2 lakh each, and nine had 1 lakh each. Officials called the surrender a major operational success, underlining the effectiveness of state policies and sustained security pressure in core Naxal areas.

In terms of organisational roles, the group included one member of the Chhattisgarh Yuva Committee (CYC), 15 party members, and 11 members linked to frontal organisations.

A senior officer said, “The surrender demonstrates the effectiveness of security operations and development initiatives in the region. It is a positive step towards restoring peace and normalcy in affected areas.”

Authorities have verified the identities of the surrendered Maoists and are integrating them into rehabilitation programmes. Officials added that this development is expected to weaken the operational capabilities of Naxal outfits in Sukma and neighbouring districts.

The mass surrender follows similar operations across Chhattisgarh, signalling growing cracks within the Maoist network. Security forces continue to monitor the region closely to ensure stability and prevent a resurgence.
