27-year-old man shot dead in Madhepura, police investigate possible rivalry

Patna: A 27-year-old man was shot from a close range after being ambushed by assailants, who lay in wait for him, in Shankarpur police station area of Madhepura district on Wednesday night.

A bullet hit victim Manish Kumar, alias Laddu, below his eye and exited from the back of his head. Manish was rushed to Madhepura Medical College Hospital, where he was declared dead.Police have taken one person in custody for questioning, said Madhepura ASP Pravendra Bharti, who had reached the spot late in the night.Preliminary investigation suggests that the case is linked to an old rivalry, police said on Thursday.“Police are interrogating the person. The murder accused is suspected to be an old friend of the deceased. All criminals involved in the murder are being identified, and they will soon be arrested. Police are collecting evidence from the crime scene,” the ASP said, adding deployment of security forces has been increased in Manish’s village to prevent any untoward incident.The body was sent for postmortem late on Wednesday night.
