A 30-year-old development officer for Life Insurance Corporation (LIC), Ravindra Ahirwar, tragically died while playing cricket in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday morning. Ravindra, a resident of Nalganj in the Sipri Bazaar area of Jhansi, was bowling in a friendly match when he suddenly felt unwell, vomited after drinking water, and lost consciousness.

The incident occurred at the Government Inter College (GIC) ground in Jhansi, where Ravindra had gone to play cricket after several weeks. His teammates promptly took him to Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College, but doctors declared him dead upon arrival.

According to his younger brother, Arvind Ahirwar, Ravindra was in good spirits and health that morning. He had woken up early, shared tea with his father, and then headed to the GIC ground to play cricket. About an hour later, his family was informed that his health had deteriorated rapidly, leading to his being rushed to the medical college, where he was pronounced dead.

Ravindra was the second of three brothers and had joined LIC as a Development Officer two years ago. His family mentioned that he was very passionate about both his work and cricket.

Witnesses at the ground explained that Ravindra had bowled a few overs before pausing for water. Shortly after drinking, he began vomiting and collapsed on the field. Initially, his teammates suspected dehydration, but soon realised the situation was critical when he remained unresponsive.

Dr Sachin Mahor, Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of Maharani Laxmi Bai Medical College, indicated that preliminary signs suggested Ravindra might have suffered a cardiac arrest. However, the exact cause of death would be determined after the post-mortem examination.

“The actual cause of death will only be clear after a post-mortem," Dr Mahor stated.
