At least 32 students, two drivers, and two teachers have been injured after two private buses hired by a school, which were carrying 90 people, collided with a private bus on the National Highway at Diwan Cheruvu near Rajamahendravaram city.

According to East Godavari Superintendent of Police D. Narasimha Kishore, the two buses hit one after another in a row when the driver of the private bus, which was moving ahead of the two buses, applied for a sudden break to avoid hitting a buffalo on the road.

The incident occurred at around 2:30 a.m. on Tuesday (January 20, 2026), while the eighty students and ten teachers were on their way from Annavaram to Rajamahendravaram.

The students and teachers of Government Model High School, Gundlapalli, in Nalgonda District of Telangana State were travelling in the two buses as part of an excursion trip.

The 32 students traveling in their two buses have been injured and admitted to the Government General Hospital in Rajamahendravaram, where their health condition is stable. The police have registered a case, and the investigation is underway.
