A whopping 376 trees and 981 branches have fallen in Bengaluru since the torrential rains on April 29. By Friday evening, the Greater Bengaluru Authority’s (GBA) tree-cutting teams had cleared over 80% of them and work was still on.
B.G.L. Swamy, Deputy Conservator of Forests, GBA, said teams were working relentlessly without a break for the past 48 hours and were overwhelmed by the extent of tree-fall. “We have cleared over 80% of them by Friday evening and will clear all of them by Saturday evening. After that, we need to make arrangements to transport the remains to firewood depots,” he said.
