HYDERABAD: Officials from the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau (TGANB) arrested five people for illegally transporting alprazolam and other chemicals in Nirmal district.Officials seized 425 kg of chloral hydrate drug and 1.1 kg of alprazolam, worth a total of 52 lakh, from the accused.The arrested have been identified as B Rama Goud from Nizamabad and Ramesh, K Rajam, E Srinivas and B Rajasekhar from Karimnagar.According to officials, the accused manufactured the drugs in Nimbavali of Thane district in Maharashtra.Police said that Rama Goud is a repeat offender who was arrested by prohibition and excise officials in Jan 2024 for a similar offence. After being released on bail, he hatched a plan to manufacture the drug again.
He formed a gang with Ramesh, Rajam, Srinivas and Rajashekar. With the help of Rajam, Rama Goud took a room in a secluded spot near Nimbavali. They started preparing the drug to sell to toddy shops for use in producing spurious toddy,' the police said. On June 19, the accused loaded 17 bags of contraband into two cars. They were arrested while transporting the drugs in the cars.
