Imran Tahir just keeps going on and on with relentless enthusiasm. On Saturday, the Guyana Amazon Warriors’ captain’s spin sorcery floored the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons as he broke multiple T20 records in a massive 84-run win for his side.
Defending a whopping 211-run total of his side, Tahir weaved magic starting with his first delivery outside the Powerplay as he dismissed Shakib Al Hasan stumped. The former South Africa leggie and Warriors skipper then went on a tear as he trapped his counterpart Imad Wasim for a four-ball duck in the same over before trapping Shamar Springer lbw in his next. Tahir returned to wipe out the tail, castling the No. 9 and 10 batters to claim a special feat in T20 cricket.
Oldest captain with five-for
The 46-year-old Tahir became the oldest man to record a T20 five-wicket haul as captain and is the first man to achieve the feat in his forties. Tahir eclipsed the record feat previously held by Malawi captain Moazzam Ali Baig with his five-for against Cameroon in September 2004. Aged 46y 148d during the North Sound fixture, Tahir is also the second-oldest man ever to bag a five-wicket haul in all recorded T20 cricket, behind Tomakanute Ritawa’s 5/19 against Fiji in 2022.

Having featured in 435 T20s in career since 2006, Tahir is one short of registering 550 wickets and stands fourth on the all-time charts. Tahir’s fifth five-wicket haul in T20 cricket also placed him joint-second on the all-time T20 bowling charts, equalling the likes of Lasith Malinga, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Shaheen Afridi and Shakib. Only David Wiese (7) has bagged more five-wicket hauls in men’s T20 cricket.
