Chennai woman dragged back from window ledge; SI Meera hailed as hero - watch

CHENNAI: A 27-year-old woman’s attempt to end her life from a fourth-floor apartment in Chennai was thwarted by the courage and quick thinking of a woman police officer. The drama unfolded on Monday on Nana Street in T Nagar, when Dovina, locked herself in a bedroom and perched precariously on a narrow window ledge, threatening to jump. As panic gripped onlookers, sub-inspector Meera of the Mambalam Police Station raced to the scene alongside fellow officers and fire and rescue personnel. But it was her swift, almost cinematic response that made the difference between life and death. While emergency teams prepared for the worst, Meera sprang into action. First, she calmed Dovina over a phone call, speaking gently yet firmly, trying to dissuade her from jumping. Meanwhile, with the help of firefighters, she burst through the locked door, rushing toward the window. In a breathtaking moment captured on video, just as Dovina began to slip, Meera lunged forward and grabbed her, pulling her back into the room.Dovina suffered minor injuries from broken window glass and was taken to a hospital where she is recovering. She was reportedly under intense emotional distress after a failed romantic relationship. The rescue footage has gone viral on social media, with SI Meera being hailed as a hero for her valor and presence of mind. Authorities are now arranging psychological support for Dovina.
