    Former V-P Jagdeep Dhankhar re-applies for MLA pension

    Jagdeep Dhankhar, who unexpectedly stepped down as Vice-President on July 21 citing health reasons, has re-applied for pension as a former legislator. Dhankhar currently also receives pension as a former MP and a former V-P.

    The former Congress MLA from Rajasthan’s Kishangarh, who later moved to the BJP, received MLA’s pension till he became the Governor of West Bengal in 2019. Given his age, he is likely to receive Rs 42,000 pension per month, officials said, calculated from the day his resignation as V-P was accepted. Read more

    Bill to remove jailed minister: Political parties told to submit names for House panel

    When Union Home Minister Amit Shah tabled the bill to remove ministers arrested under serious charges and not granted bail within 30 day, there was a huge uproar in Parliament. The proposed legislation was sent to a joint committee of Parliament. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla gave an update about the panel Saturday, saying that names have been sought from all parties. At least four Opposition parties – TMC, SP and Shiv Sena (UBT), part of the INDIA bloc, and the AAP have decided not to participate, it is learnt. Read more

    Former White House official says 'US brand in the toilet,’ slams 50% tariffs on India

    Jake Sullivan, the National Security Adviser to former President Joe Biden, has said that President Donald Trump’s tariffs make China look “more responsible” than the US. He also teared into Washigton’s policy actions, saying that the “US brand is in the toilet,” and Trump’s actions have pushed New Delhi closer to Beijing. Sullivan contrasted this with the past where successive US governments worked “to build a deeper and more sustainable relationship with” India, he said. Read more

    Google asks Gmail users to update passwords after data breach

    Google is urging all 2.5 billion of its Gmail users to change their password and set up two-factor authentication after the tech giant uncovered a data breach. This potential threat is seen risking information stored in Gmail accounts. To be sure, Google said no passwords are currently compromised, but the breach has made users vulnerable to phishing attempts. Scammers are even impersonating Google employees and calling as well as texting users. The threat group has previously been seen as responsible for big data breaches at Microsoft, Ticketmaster and AT&T. Read more

    Pawan Kalyan calls for ex-CM’s palatial beachside property to be put to use

    Andhra Pradesh’s former chief minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy had different plans for his state and built a palatial beachside property in Visakhapatnam, one of the three proposed capitals. But, he soon lost power and the Rushikonda resort has also lost its sheen. Deputy CM K Pawan Kalyan recently visited the property and has now called for it to be put to some use. Visuals showed patches of plaster and paint peeling off some of the walls. Read more
