    BJP releases first list of candidates for Bihar Assembly elections

    The BJP on Tuesday revealed the names of 71 candidates for next month’s Bihar Assembly elections. The BJP’s first list is dominated by repeat candidates, with 50 of them who contested in the 2020 elections. The most prominent names on the BJP’s first list of candidates include Bihar Deputy CMs Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, former state president and incumbent minister Mangal Pandey, and former Deputy CMs Tarkishore Prasad and Renu Devi.     Haryana Police ASI’s suicide adds new twist to ADGP Y Puran Kumar’s death

    Amid the continuing controversy over the suicide of IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, the death of another serving police officer has rocked Haryana. Sandeep Kumar, a Haryana Police ASI posted in Rohtak, allegedly died by suicide on Tuesday after leaving behind a three-page note and a six-minute video in which he has levelled allegations of corruption against late IPS officer Y Puran Kumar. The ASI, who was posted in the Cyber Cell, played a vital role in the arrest of Head Constable Sushil Kumar, a close aide of Y Puran Kumar, who identified himself as his personal security officer, a day before the IPS officer died by suicide.     WHO raises medical alert about cough syrups linked to MP child deaths

    The World Health Organization (WHO) has raised a medical alert about the three syrups that caused over a dozen child deaths in Madhya Pradesh. The alert came after the inter-governmental agency sought clarification from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization on whether the contaminated medicines had been exported to other countries. WHO was informed that these medicines were not intended for export, and there was no evidence of illegal export. The three cough syrups were found to be contaminated with higher than permissible limits of diethylene glycol, which is a toxic substance. Read more

    ‘Digital arrest’ gang targeting US, Canadian citizens busted in Bengaluru

    The Bengaluru city police have arrested a gang of 16 people involved in cyber fraud, similar to “digital arrest” but targeting US and Canadian citizens. According to the police, the gang operated under the pretext of a BPO company named Cybits Solutions in HSR Layout police limits. Police said the gang cheated foreign nationals by claiming to be from federal agencies investigating crimes related to illegal drugs and money laundering. The police also found that the gang had hired more than 25 young people under the pretext of providing legitimate employment to carry out their operations. Read more

    Israel opens fire on ‘suspects’ in Gaza

    The Israeli military on Tuesday said it opened fire in northern Gaza after “suspects” approached its forces. According to the Israeli military, the individuals had crossed into an area designated for Israel’s initial troop withdrawal under the US-brokered ceasefire. The military said it opened fire after the individuals continued approaching the troops despite being warned against it. The incident happened a day after Hamas released the 20 living hostages as part of the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire agreement. Read more
