Speculation is growing that Nitish Kumar's son Nishant may soon formally enter politics by joining the JD(U).

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar‘s son, Nishant Kumar, has recently begun circulating widely in the state’s political corridors. Known for maintaining a low profile and staying away from public life, Nishant has rarely been seen participating in political activities. However, speculation is now growing that he may soon formally enter politics by joining the Janata Dal (United) (JDU). Political chatter has also suggested that if Nitish Kumar eventually moves to the Rajya Sabha, Nishant could even emerge as a contender for the post of Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister.

Nishant Kumar was born on July 20, 1975, to Nitish Kumar and his wife Manju Sinha, a school teacher. After her death in 2007, Nishant largely withdrew from public attention and has since lived a quiet and private life. He pursued a degree in software engineering at the Birla Institute of Technology in Mesra near Ranchi. For years, Nishant has remained away from active politics. However, during the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections and at Nitish Kumar’s swearing-in ceremony, he was seen participating more visibly than before. Recent reports suggest that preparations may be underway within the party to formally welcome him, though no official announcement has been made yet.
