6,000 acres of paddy inundated as Yeleru reservoir hits full storage level in Kakinada

Nearly 6,000 acres of paddy crop have been inundated with the release of 7,000 cusecs of water from the Yeleru reservoir, which reached its full storage capacity of 22 TMC at Yeleswaram in Kakinada district on Thursday. 

Kakinada District Collector S. Shan Mohan and Prathipadu MLA Varupula Satyaprabha on Thursday inspected the inflow of rainwater from the Rampachodavaram agency area into the into the Yeleru reservoir .

Mr. Shan Mohan said that the excess water had to be released from the Yeleru reservoir despite inundation of paddy crop in its ayacut area. He cautioned that the Kirlampudi, Gollaprolu, Samarlakota canal areas are likely to be affected. The Irrigation and Revenue authorities have been told to monitor the water inflow and storage levels to prevent breaches and inundation of villages.
