61-year-old Kerala doctor arrested in POCSO case for allegedly molesting teen during counselling

A 61-year-old doctor in Kerala has been arrested and remanded in a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) case for allegedly molesting a 14-year-old girl who had sought counselling at his house.

Dr. Vishak Kumari, a retired secretary at the Kanhangad District Homeopathy Hospital, was taken into custody by Hosdurg police on Monday.

The incident occurred in December 2023 when the girl, now 16, visited the doctor’s house for counselling with her parents. The doctor allegedly hugged and assaulted her during her fourth visit. The girl disclosed the abuse during a school counselling session this year, prompting Chandera police to register a case.

The investigation was transferred to the Hosdurg police as the crime occurred under their jurisdiction. The accused faces charges under the POCSO Act.

He has been remanded to 14 day’s judicial custody by the Hosdurg Judicial First Class Magistrate Court.
