66-year-old killed in road accident on Udupi–Sringeri Highway

UDUPI: A senior citizen who was standing by the roadside was killed in an accident within the Manipal police station limits on Wednesday evening. The incident occurred when a speeding rickshaw hit the woman, throwing her onto the road, where she was fatally run over by a bus following behind.The deceased is Vinoda, 66. According to the police, the incident took place near the Eshwar Nagar rickshaw stand in Herga village of Udupi taluk, on the Udupi–Sringeri Highway, when rickshaw driver Prakash was allegedly driving from Udupi toward Parkala at high speed and in a negligent manner. He hit Vinoda, who was standing by the roadside.As a result of the impact, Vinoda was thrown onto the right side of the road, and at the same moment, she came under the rear wheel of a bus that was travelling in the same direction from Udupi to Parkala behind the autorickshaw. She died on the spot. A case was registered at the Manipal police station under Sections 281 and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
