7 Killed, Several Injured In Road Accident In Surat; President Extends Condolences

At least seven people died and several others were injured in a road accident involving two buses on the Gujarat-Maharashtra Highway in the Bardoli Tehsil of Surat district.

Surat Rural SP Rajesh Gadhiya said, “The accident occurred today at approximately 4:00 PM and involved three vehicles: two Maharashtra government buses and a tractor towing a water tanker. One of the buses was travelling from Surat towards Dhule in Maharashtra. While moving along National Highway 53 (NH-53), specifically on the stretch between Bardoli and Vyara, it collided with a water tanker. As a result of this impact, the bus lost balance, veered across the central road divider, and entered the lanes of oncoming traffic. Consequently, it rammed into a second state transport bus travelling in the opposite direction—from Chalisgaon in Maharashtra towards Surat. The bus travelling toward Surat overturned into a low-lying area beside the road and shortly thereafter caught fire… Seven people have tragically lost their lives so far. We are in constant contact with the medical emergency teams, and the victims have been transported to the sub-civil hospital. Regarding the injured, our initial information indicates a count of approximately 25 to 30 passengers, who are receiving immediate treatment across the nearest healthcare facilities…"
