Vijayawada: Eight schools from Andhra Pradesh have been selected for the prestigious Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) 2025 awards, a national initiative of the Government of India that promotes safe water management, sanitation, hygiene (WASH), and environmental sustainability in schools.Samagra Shiksha state project director B. Srinivasa Rao, IAS, announced that the results of the national assessment have been released. Conducted in line with the Centre’s Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment) framework, the programme recognised only 191 schools across the country, with Andhra Pradesh securing eight places on the national honours list.The schools from Andhra Pradesh that earned national recognition are Zilla Parishad High School, Thadikalapudi (Eluru); Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV), Hiramandalam (Srikakulam); Municipal Primary School, Steamer Road (West Godavari); Zilla Parishad High School, Malicherla (Vizianagaram); KGBV, Anandapuram (Visakhapatnam); Mandal Parishad Primary School, Lingampeta (Anakapalli); Mandal Parishad Primary School, Jalumuru (Srikakulam); and NATCO School of Learning, Ponnur (Guntur), the only private unaided institution among the awardees.Congratulating the winning schools, Srinivasa Rao said the achievement reflects the state’s commitment to promoting cleanliness, environmental responsibility, and sustainable practices in school education.Each selected school will receive a ₹1 lakh composite school grant, a national recognition certificate for excellence in sanitation and green initiatives, and an opportunity for the headmaster to participate in special exposure visits to study best practices adopted by leading educational institutions across the country.The SPD expressed confidence that the award-winning schools would emerge as role models for other institutions and inspire wider adoption of eco-friendly and sustainable practices in the education sector.
