82-year-old retired teacher held for raping minor in UP, neighbour records act

BAREILLY: An 82-year-old man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly raping a six-year-old girl in a village in Bareilly district, police said on Friday.The incident took place on Monday when the child, who was playing with other children, was lured by the man with chocolates to a secluded spot near the village, where he allegedly raped her.A neighbour, noticing the girl's absence, went looking for her and saw what was happening. He recorded the incident and later shared the video with the child's father, who alerted others in the family.An FIR was registered on the family's complaint under sections 65(2) (rape on a girl under 12 years of age) and 351(2) (criminal intimidation) of the BNS, sections 5(m) and 6 of the PocsoAct, and section 67 of the IT act.Bareilly SSP Anurag Arya said, "The accused fled and was later caught in the village. During questioning, he said he is a retired school teacher."Police said the neighbour who recorded the video is also under scrutiny for not seeking help or informing police.(The victim's identity has not been revealed to protect her privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
