Nine people, including a minor, died after a car rammed a group of people amid heavy rainfall in Maharashtra's Pune on Wednesday evening.
The incident took place around 6:45 pm on the Jejuri-Morgaon road.
According to Superintendent of Police (SP) Sandeep Singh Gill, a Swift Dzire, travelling at high speed, struck a group of people near the roadside eatery.
"Shriram Dhaba’s owner, Somnath Ramchandra Vyse, was unloading a refrigerator from a pickup vehicle when the car rammed into him and several others. Police arrived at the scene promptly and began clearing the wreckage with the help of cranes. Efforts to remove the damaged vehicles are still underway," SP Gill said.
Eight people died on the spot while four people - a man, a woman, and two children — were injured. Of two injured children, one died during the treatment. Others are currently receiving medical attention at Shantai Hospital in Jejuri.
Eight of the nine people who died have been identified as Somnath Ramchandra Vyse, Ramu Sanjeevani Yadav, Ajay Kumar Chavan, Ajit Ashok Jadhav, Kiran Bharat Raut, Ashwini Santosh S R, Akshay Sanjay Raut and six-year-old Sarthak Kiran Raut. One person remains unidentified.
