Premier League side Manchester City posted a 2-0 win over champions Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday to give Pep Guardiola yet another win on his 1000th game as a manager.

Goals from Erling Haaland, Nico Gonzales and Jeremy Doku helped Guardiola and Co. register a resounding 3-0 win over Arne Slot’s Liverpool.

City were handed a penalty for Reds keeper Giorgi Mamardashvili’s foul on Doku, but the stopped kept the scoreboard from ticking by keeping Haaland’s spot kick out.

However, the Norwegian striker made amends minutes later with a header into the side netting as he rose up behind Ibrahima Konate to give the hosts the lead. The goal proved to be the forward’s 99th PL strike as the 25-year-old keeps going from strength to strength every time he steps out onto the field.

Gonzales put City two goals to the good in the third minute of first half added time as Guardiola and Co. took a massive advantage into the break.

Doku, playing his 100th game for the Mancunian club, marked it with a goal in the second essay of the fixture as he struck three minutes after the hour mark as City stamped their authority on the day against Slot’s defending champions.

Guardiola made his managerial debut on September 2, 2007, for Barcelona ‘B’ in a Spanish fourth-tier match against Premia. Eighteen years later, he is set to manage his 1000th game against Liverpool.

From his initial role with Barcelona ‘B’ to trophy-laden tenures with Barcelona, Bayern Munich, and Manchester City, here is a numerical look at Guardiola’s remarkable coaching career that has transformed football.

Guardiola began his career with Barcelona ‘B’ and then took charge of the senior team, revolutionising modern football. He later moved to Bayern Munich, turning them into a European powerhouse, before taking a year’s sabbatical and joining Manchester City in 2016.

Guardiola has a win rate of 71.57 per cent in his 999 games as a manager, averaging a trophy every 25 games. He is also Manchester City’s longest-serving manager, leading the club to numerous titles.

Twice in his career, Guardiola has seen his teams score 9 goals in a match. First with Barcelona in a 9-0 victory over L’Hospitalet in the Copa del Rey in December 2011, and then with Manchester City in a 9-0 win over Burton Albion in the English League Cup in January 2019.

Guardiola has won the UEFA Champions League three times, in 2009, 2011, and 2023, only behind the legendary Carlo Ancelotti, who has won the title five times.
