A.P. govt. forms new panel for transfer of antiques from Telangana

The government has constituted a new committee for the identification, selection and transfer of antiques from Telangana, in accordance with the provisions of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, 2014. The antiques concerned are presently housed in the Telangana State Museum.

The government issued a G.O. in this regard on December 31, 2025 after a detailed examination of reports submitted by the Commissioner of the Department of Archaeology and Museums in Vijayawada.

The committee will be chaired by Tejaswi Podapati, Chairperson of the A.P. State Creativity and Culture Commission. The Commissioner/Director of the Department of Archaeology and Museums, Government of Andhra Pradesh will serve as the Convener and Member.

Other members include eminent historians, archaeologists and museum experts such as Vakulabharanam Ramakrishna, former head of the department of history at the University of Hyderabad, Emani Sivanagi Reddy, retired Stapathi, senior and retired museum officials and a representative of the Finance Department.

The committee has been tasked with reviewing the status of antiques, overseeing their identification and selection and supervising the distribution between the two States. It will also coordinate and organise meetings with the corresponding committee of the Telangana government to facilitate the transfer.

The government said the transfer of antiques to Andhra Pradesh is essential for their proper conservation, documentation and public display in State museums and institutions, and to showcase the State’s cultural, historical and artistic heritage.
