The State government will organise ‘Aakasha Mittayi,’ a programme to celebrate the success of ‘Jeevitholsavam challenge’ for students, at Kanakakkunnu on October 21.

Jeevitholsavam was implemented for higher secondary students through the National Service Scheme from September 24. The project involving work-based and reform-oriented challenges, with the aim of making school campuses free of drugs, was taken up by 1.5 lakh students over 21 days.

Aakasha Mittayi, inspired by writer Vaikom Mohammed Basheer’s work, will be held on the Kanakakkunnu Palace compound on October 21 and 22 to celebrate the growth and change in students who are the actual ‘Aakasha Mittayi,’ Minister for General Education V. Sivankutty said at a press conference here on Wednesday.

Piloted through the NSS, the 21-day programme will now extended to all students in higher secondary schools across the State under the name ‘Aakasha Mittayi Challenge.’ The message is to not get high from drugs or other intoxicants but living life fully with confidence and contentment, the Minister said.
