Melbourne's Indian Film Festival (IFFM) 2025 turned into a proud festival this year as Bollywood star Aamir Khan marked the Indian national flag at the Federation Square on Saturday morning to mark India's 79th Independence Day.
The vision of the tricolor in the heart of Melbourne attracted hundreds from the Australian Indian community, which came together to honor the occasion with joy and patriotism.
Australia joins the spirit of India
In India, the High Commissioner of Australia, Philip Green OAM shared a video of the ceremonies on its X handle. In his post, he praised the unity of the diaspora, and wrote, "From Mumbai to Melbourne, the soul of India flies high!" He also highlighted the pride of joining the community in Fed Square for the ceremony of Fed Square for Ameir Khan, making the day even more memorable.
Aamir Khan honored for cinematic legacy
The festival paid tribute to Aamir Khan's cinematic heritage with excellence at the cinema award, honoring his decades long journey in Indian cinema and his remarkable impact on the industry. This prestigious belief added another shiny moment to the magnificent lineup of IFFM this year.
Awards night celebrates excellence
The awards night, held on August 15, celebrated achievements across films and streaming platforms. 'Homebound' won Best Film, with Neeraj Ghaywan securing Best Director for the same project. Abhishek Bachchan bagged Best Actor (Male) for 'I Want to Talk', while Nimisha Sajayan and Jaideep Ahlawat earned top honours in the series categories for 'Dabba Cartel' and 'Paatal Lok 2'. The Tamil film 'Angammal' by Vipin Radhakrishnan claimed Best Indie Film, while Bengali feature 'Baksho Bondi' (Shadowbox), directed by Tanushree Das and Saumyananda Sahi, was recognised in the Equality in Cinema category.
