The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Monday staged a silent human chain protest outside Lok Nayak Jai Prakash (LNJP) Hospital, alleging irregularities in procurement by Delhi’s health department and demanding a thorough investigation into the matter.

Led by Delhi AAP president Saurabh Bharadwaj, party workers formed a human chain outside the hospital carrying placards as the party sought to highlight what it described as irregularities in the procurement of medicines and medical equipment by the Delhi government.

Addressing reporters, Bharadwaj alleged that the Delhi government had changed its procurement policy by directing government hospitals to stop making direct purchases and instead route procurement through the Central Procurement Agency (CPA).

The AAP leader also referred to an Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) case linked to the procurement process and questioned the pace of the investigation.

Bharadwaj further claimed that procurement-related decisions taken by the government had adversely affected the availability of medicines and equipment in government hospitals. He urged the authorities to investigate the procurement process and fix accountability wherever irregularities were found.

During the protest, the AAP also highlighted differences between market prices and procurement costs of certain medical supplies. Party leaders alleged that hospitals had lost the flexibility to procure medicines directly after purchasing powers were centralised.

The party claimed that the changes in procurement procedures had affected healthcare services in Delhi and demanded greater transparency in the functioning of the health department. It also called for an independent probe into the procurement process and the implementation of the policy.

Several AAP MLAs, including Sanjeev Jha and Kuldeep Kumar, participated in the protest and reiterated the party’s demand for a comprehensive investigation into the alleged procurement irregularities.

They also urged the government to ensure uninterrupted availability of medicines and diagnostic services in public hospitals.

The allegations were made by AAP leaders during the protest. There was no immediate response from the Delhi government to the claims.
