The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) staged a protest on Saturday across Uttar Pradesh, raising concerns over an acute fertiliser shortage that has left farmers struggling during the peak sowing season.
Hundreds of AAP workers gathered to demand urgent government intervention and submitted a memorandum to the District Officers across the state.
In a post on X, the part's UP unit said that the 'halla bol' (protest) was called by state in-charge and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh.
"On the call of state in-charge and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, AAP workers and office bearers protested strongly against the shortage of fertilisers in Uttar Pradesh today at all the tehsil headquarters of Uttar Pradesh and handed over a memorandum addressed to the Governor to the administrative officer," the post read.
According to AAP, farmers in the district are facing a severe crisis due to the unavailability of fertilisers like DAP and urea. Despite waiting in long queues for hours, many farmers are returning empty-handed. The party claims that more than 50 per cent of cooperative societies in Uttar Pradesh are facing similar shortages.
AAP leader Sanjay Singh, on X, criticised the state government, stating, “Due to the failure of the Yogi government, farmers are not getting fertilisers even after standing in line for hours.”
According to the Dainik Bhaskar report, the party, in their memorandum, put forward five key demands: immediate and adequate fertiliser supply, a ban on black marketing and corruption in distribution, transparency in the distribution system, action against responsible officials, and a special assistance package for affected farmers.
AAP spokesperson Vanshraj Dubey accused the state of ignoring repeated complaints and demanded a full review of the fertiliser supply system.
In response, Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi and Cooperative Minister JPS Rathore denied any shortage, claiming adequate supply across the state.
Meanwhile, AAP also shared an incident from Madhya Pradesh on its Facebook page, accusing the BJP government of cheating farmers after a crop insurance claim of over Rs 3 lakh was settled with just Rs 1,200.
