On June 24, 2025, Aaron Rodgers took people by surprise when he started talking about potentially retiring after the NFL season. The quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers now at age 41 discussed his thoughts on retirement with Pat McAfee in an interview on The Pat McAfee Show.

He never used the word "retirement" directly, but he spoke as though this could be his final year. When listening to his calm and contemplative manner as he spoke, people began to wonder if this is truly the end of what would be a long football journey. Many fans were left thinking about what comes next for the veteran star.

Aaron Rodgers says ’pretty sure’ 2025 Is final year

On Tuesday, June 24, during The Pat McAfee Show, Aaron Rodgers said, “I’m pretty sure this is it.” He signed a one‑year deal earlier this month with the Pittsburgh Steelers worth $13.65 million, with up to $19.5 million possible through bonuses. He made clear that this agreement was meant to be his last contract. Aaron Rodgers explained that he wanted to finish his long career in a good way—“with love and fun and peace”—after playing for over 20 years. He called it “a long run” and said he’s excited to play for head coach Mike Tomlin and help the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Aaron Rodgers began his NFL career with the Green Bay Packers in 2005, playing there until 2022. Then he spent two seasons with the New York Jets (2023–2024). Now in 2025, he joined the Pittsburgh Steelers. He spoke fondly of his weekly talks with Coach Mike Tomlin and said joining the Pittsburgh Steelers felt right for his soul. Aaron Rodgers also said this season would be about more than playing—it would be about leaving a good mark and enjoying everything until the end.

Aaron Rodgers also talked about helping younger players. He said he wants to guide rookie quarterback Will Howard, who joined the Pittsburgh Steelers this spring after starring at Ohio State. He said, “I want to help him as much as possible,” reflecting a supportive role on and off the field. Rodgers said that after this season, he plans to step away from the spotlight and live privately.

Later this year, the Pittsburgh Steelers will face the New York Jets in Week 1 on September 7 at MetLife Stadium, setting the stage for what could be Aaron Rodgers’ farewell tour. Fans will be watching every inning, ready to see if these words signal the final chapter of a legendary career.
