Aaron Rodgers endures worst Steelers game as viral photo sparks playful jab from ex-teammate (Imagn Images)
Aaron Rodgers had a Sunday night to forget in Los Angeles. The veteran quarterback, now 41, delivered one of his least impressive performances as the Pittsburgh Steelers fell 25-10 to the Chargers.
Rodgers completed just 16 of his 31 passes for 161 yards, managing only one touchdown while tossing two costly interceptions. The Chargers’ defense overwhelmed the Steelers from the start, sacking Rodgers three times and forcing the offense into repeated mistakes that stalled any hope of momentum. One of those brutal hits quickly went viral - a photo captured by Associated Press photographer Marcio J. Sanchez showed Rodgers grimacing on the turf after a collision with linebacker Bud Dupree.
The hit, which arguably warranted a helmet-to-helmet flag, wasn’t called. On Tuesday, Rodgers’s former Green Bay Packers teammate and close friend David Bakhtiari couldn’t resist joining the online buzz, jokingly tweeting, “Yup that’s me, you’re probably wondering how I got here…” alongside the photo.
It was light-hearted teasing between longtime friends, but for Steelers fans, the image represented a painful night that summed up their team’s struggles.
Aaron Rodgers takes accountability after his worst Steelers performance
After the loss, Rodgers didn’t deflect blame. Instead, he faced the media with honesty. “This was not my best performance,” Rodgers said. “I got to play better than this for us to win. Whatever it takes ... if it's better checks, if it's better throws, whatever it is, I got to play better. I will. ... We got to play better on offense, for sure. But this is part of the season. There's ebbs and flows, there's ups and downs, and we can't ride the wave.
”Head coach Mike Tomlin also acknowledged the offense’s collective failure, refusing to single out his quarterback. “We as an offensive collective were off today, and certainly, he's a component of that,” Tomlin said. “I'll let him speak for himself, but we certainly got to be better.”At 5-4, the Steelers still sit atop the AFC North, but the Ravens are closing in fast. Rodgers’s leadership and ability to rebound will be under the microscope as the season deepens. Sunday’s game may have been a low point, but Rodgers has built a career on comebacks - and Pittsburgh will need that trademark resilience to stay in the playoff race.More NFL coverageBrett Favre slams NFL for choosing Bad Bunny for Super Bowl halftime, says league should “pick someone who loves our country”Jerry Jones gets emotional sharing how Cowboys will honor Marshawn Kneeland after shocking death at 24: "Everybody evaluates everybody"
